NFPA Seminar on Explosive Dust Hazards Held at Camfil APC

Jonesboro, AR., November 2008 - A technical training class on explosion protection for industrial dust collection systems was held at Camfil APC's headquarters in Jonesboro. A speaker from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) led the seminar for the first two days of the three-day event.

Intensive technical training on the hazards of combustible dust and how to design entire dust collection systems to NFPA standards was presented to Farr sales representatives, dealers, customers and engineers. Several dust explosion case studies were reviewed in detail. Statistical data illustrated how uncontrolled combustible dust has resulted in many factory dust explosions over the past several years.

Their presentation covered the proper application of explosion protection and flame quenching devices in accordance with NFPA fire and explosibility standards.

Camfil APC's Technical Director Tony Supine presented a review of NFPA 68 with detailed application to the Farr Gold Series line of industrial dust collectors. Examination of dust characteristics and explosibility, Camfil APC's stance and capabilities with the Farr Gold Series, explosion protection options, explosion vent mounting and duct calculations were some of the topics in his technical discussion.
