Wood Dust Issues Chipped Away, Solved with HemiPleat™
Challenge
Wood Technology is a manufacturer of custom home cabinets. They contacted Farr sales representative Grant Bowry of Environmental Air Systems for a dust collection system to exhaust edge banders, a 42" wide belt sander, a CNC machine, edge sanders, table saws, planer, jointer, etc. The total air volume was 6,000 CFM and PTFW350 cartridges were installed to provide an air-to-cloth ration of 2.1:1. Surprisingly, the cartridges plugged up with wood dust.
Solution
Modifications were made to the system in response to the rapidly increasing pressure drop and subsequent drop in air volume, including the installation of eight new HemiPleat HMPTS-305 cartridges. Careful monitoring and logging of pressure drop readings both on-line and off-line were made. The average pressure drop reading over that 2-1/2 month period was 1.4' w.g. and the air volume was maintained at 6,000 CFM. Even when the compressed air was accidently shut off during this period, the HemiPleats were able to recover from an 11" w.g. Delta P.
"Chock one up for the HEMI's!!!" says Grant. "The HemiPleat cartridges solved a difficult situation and have provided a very optimistic future for cartridge collector applications." ![]()
