Curved Stairway Builder Goes Straight for Gold Series®
Challenge
Weitco manufacturers custom, curved stairways. In 2003, they expanded their business by opening a new plant in Orrtanna, PA. Dust and chips from various woodworking machines would be generated and a dust collector was needed at the new facility.
Solution
Farr rep Jeremiah Wann of Imperial Systems learned of the opportunity and visited the new operation. He took an inventory of the dust-producing machinery located in two buildings, making notes of the CFM ratings recommended by the equipment manufacturers. Based on his review and extensive experience with woodworking applications, Jeremiah sized up a Gold Series GS16 to handle a total of 15,000 CFM at a 2.7:1 air-to-cloth ratio. Since chips have a tendency to grab onto the pleats, wide-pleat PTSW350 filter cartridges with overbags were specified. Jeremiah then sold all the unique features and benefits of the Gold Series.
Weitco immediately placed their order with Farr for the GS16, which was shipped in April 2003 and is running great.
As of September 2004, the first set of cartridges are still doing the job. As seen in the photo, the GS unit is mounted above a storage hopper which is dumped about once a week into a truck. ![]()
