No Manual Work With Our Collectors
Challenge
First Light Technologies, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of low pressure germicidal lamps and medium pressure UV lamps. The dust that is being generated by sawing glass with the diamond saw blades was too much for the competitors envelope bag type collector with an automatic shaker. Cleaning was ineffective and the customer had to manually “blow-off” bags every two days. The loaded filters resulted in reduced airflow and fugitive emissions from the saws. This compromised the shop cleanliness and the excessive maintenance required to keep the competitors collector running was labor intensive and costly.
Solution
David Brennan of Brennan Environmental Inc. went in and evaluated the challenges of the customer. David was working with a limited available amount of space located on the inside of the facilities, which brought him to the conclusion of placing the Farr Gold Series® model GS6 on the outside of the facility. Brennan Environmental, Inc. provided the company with Nordfab ducting which neatly connected the saws, used in their glass cutting process, to the GS6 collector located right outside the facility. With the unit being located on the outside of the building, this freed up space for more production and kept most of the noise outside also. The GS6 and its FS5 10 HP fan move 4,000 CFM at 9”WG. The customer installed the system in January/February 2008 and has not required replacement filters as of October 2009. Chris Carman,Maintenance Supervisor said, “It is a thousand times improvement over what we had. American made, goes together nicely and built better than any other. It was worth every penny, machine has been great!" ![]()
