Why does the Gold Cone work so well? (continued)
Real Life Examples
At Pamarco in Atlanta, GA they are thermal spraying non-ferrous metal onto ferrous metal parts. They use a dual wire arc process. This results in a large volume of submicron particulate that has a bulk density of less than 1 lb/cu ft. Pamarco tried a 48 cartridge horizontal cartridge collector and could only get two months of filter life. They then pulled that out and put in a traditional 48 cartridge vertical cartridge collector. It achieved only three months of filter life, also unacceptable. They finally installed a 48 cartridge Gold Cone collector and are currently at 3 year filter life and counting. Dave Drozd, Plant Engineer at Pamarco had this to say, "Over the years, we tried several types of dust collection equipment on EAW spraying. However, all previous attempts at extended filter life (more than six months) failed until we installed a high efficiency "Gold Series®" cartridge collection system. At the time of this writing, the Gold Series collector is still performing exceptionally well without a filter change after three years."
At Schuler Manufacturing in Atlantic, IA they run a large plasma cutting table cutting up to 1" thick plate. They installed a 36 cartridge horizontal dust collector. After failing to get more than 2 week filter life, they pulled it out and installed a 36 cartridge Gold Cone unit. They are currently averaging 2 year filter life. Dan Schuler, Owner had this to say: "We are very happy with the Farr Gold Series. The GS36 was purchased for our CNC plasma cutter to replace a horizontal cartridge dust collector due to short filter life. The current filters have been in for over a year and still look great and are operating at less than 3" pressure drop. Also, the Farr people have been a pleasure to do business with."
At Kountry Kraft Kitchens in Newmasters, PA they run multiple work working machines producing high quality kitchen cabinets. After years of dealing with high maintenance baghouses, Kountry Kraft wanted something simpler and easier to deal with. After installing an 84 cartridge Gold Series unit with Gold cone cartridge, Elvin Hurst Jr, President of Kountry Kraft Kitchens had this to say: "We were skeptical at first of a cartridge collector on wood dust, we had always used bags. But we have to say that the Gold Series cartridge collector is working great and has exceeded our expectations."
Summary

The vertical filter design combined with a crossflow inlet combined with the Gold Cone™ result in a dust collector that delivers unparalleled performance in maintaining low pressure drop. This results in long filter life and extremely low energy consumption. In just a few short years since its launch, over 1,500 companies have switched to the Gold Cone concept. What are you waiting for?
To make sure the new dust collection system would deliver optimum performance, Air Improvement Resources recommended a dust analysis at Camfil Farr APC's dust testing laboratory in Jonesboro. Thermal Ceramics forwarded a dust sample to the lab, where Farr technicians performed a series of bench tests to determine the characteristics of the dust - including its size, shape, weight, moisture content, abrasiveness and other properties. "Bench testing is a very useful tool because it helps the design team to specify a collector's filter media, hardware and other components based on scientific analysis rather than guesswork," says Morgan.
